Late Friday afternoon, as the Jubilee celebrations were warming up at Kislingbury fields, so was the anticipation at the Kislingbury Temperance cricket club as Rushden, Peterborough, and Kislingbury were battling it out in the Northants T20 Championships.

Kislingbury Temperance had shown excellent form, beating Rushden by an impressive number of overs in the first match. The heat was now on; with Kislingbury in contention to beat Peterborough, the undefeated champions for the last two years, the excitement in the crowd was rising in anticipation of a win as the team focused on bringing it home.

The final match saw Peterborough win the toss, placing Kislingbury Temperance into bat first. With just a single innings to secure their win, Kislingbury gave it everything they had, but with a score of just 168, victory looked doubtful, especially against the first-class team of Peterborough.

Not even the team’s most loyal supporters felt the score was sufficient for a win.

But the team’s magnificent bowling and fielding restricted Peterborough to score just 132 off their twenty overs to seal a well-deserved victory over the once reigning champions.

The win is a huge feather in the Kislingbury cap and paves the way for a championship win.
